Week 5 Match Report - MT 2019

This was a hugely successful week of BUCS matches for Oxford with two big wins, two draws and no losses!

Starting with M3 who crushed Oxford Brookes 2’s 12-0 (proving once and for all who dominates the court on Oxfordshire home turf!). It was a solid performance all round from the team to secure such a unequivocal victory.

M4 won their away match against Coventry 4-2.

Following their unambiguous 12-0 defeat of UEA’s 3rd team last week M2 were back in Norwich again to take on their 1’s which eventually culminated in a 3-3 draw after some strong fights from the Grassick brothers. Andrew Grassick playing as 3rd seed narrowly lost his singles in a drawn out battle 1-6, 7-5, 6-7 whilst fighting off cramp and Chris had a big win 6-0, 6-1 against their 2nd seed. Special shoutout to Luke Pitman for two strong wins for his first game of the season!

W1 drew 6-6 against Bristol in their away match this week. It was a titanic effort from all involved, where both doubles matches lasted over three hours and were very narrowly lost. Special mention goes to Mary who despite being extremely nervous during the tense doubles match really turned it around and played some superb singles to pull out a very comfortable win.

Extra kudos to Matt Maynard who debuted as W1’s chauffeur this week! Thank you Matt!

PLAYER OF THE MATCH

Matt Calow for holding his nerve and winning his deciding set 7-5 to win the fixture for M4 and maintain his unbeaten season record!
