SOWING THE SEED

The club was formed in 1879 and was initially located at Norham Gardens in North Oxford. The 'All England Men's Doubles Championships' were held in Oxford during the May Races from 1879 until 1883. In 1884 the Men's Doubles Championships moved to the All England Lawn Tennis Club, Wimbledon. OULTC donated their challenge cup to the All England Lawn Tennis Club to be presented to the winners of the Men's Doubles, a tradition that continues to this day.

THE NEW GROUNDS

In 1926 OULTC moved from Norham Gardens to its current site at Iffley Road with the courts being officially opened in 1927. The club has remained there ever since and continues to prosper to this day under the leadership of current president, A H Billington BA.

OUR FACILITIES

The club facilities can be found by the Roger Bannister track, at Iffley Road Sports Ground. We have four hard courts which are available for use all year and six grass courts that are used in the Summer months. Our clubhouse was built with club funds raised by former OULTC President Larry Bachmann. It is located next to the courts and is used to host club events, visiting teams and team meetings.

TENNIS FOR EVERYONE

We cater to all levels of tennis from people who have never touched a racquet before to players who are looking to develop their match play to players who have competed in national championships, represented their country and even played in junior grand slams. All Oxford University members, including faculty members and staff, are welcome to join as well as interested players who aren't affiliated with the university.

REGULAR MATCHES

OULTC has three women's and three men's teams competing in British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) competitions. Along with the Men's Fourths these teams also compete in multiple fixtures throughout summer term which end with varsity matches against Cambridge University Lawn Tennis Club (Challenge OULTC here).

SOCIAL EVENTS

Off court, OULTC also has regular social events for its members and alumni ranging from team breakfasts to club dinners and trips to the pub. While our inter-club events allow players from all teams and social tennis to be introduced to one another, our weekly dinners with other teams, allows us to play a part in the wider sporting community at Oxford.

TOUR

Tour provides the opportunity for our top three men's and women's teams to interact with the global tennis community. It's an opportunity to experience the local culture while competing against other clubs and teams. Select members of our blues teams also have the chance to compete in the prestigious Prentice and Seabright Cup.
